This course describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
This course applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
This course provides the practical skills and the theory required to provide both a CPR response, and defibrillation to someone in cardiac arrest.

Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere, and the actions taken in the first few minutes are critical. This course gives you the skills and confidence to perform CPR and operate an AED in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, keeping a casualty alive until emergency services arrive.

This is a blended course that includes self-paced online learning and face-to-face training. Before attending the face-to-face session, students must complete their e-Learning and knowledge assessment. Depending on individual learning ability, students should allow up to 1 hour to complete this component, which can be done in one sitting or over several sessions.
The face-to-face training and practical assessment starts at 09.00AM, and takes approximately 2 hours in a classroom environment.

Participants must meet the following:
– Participants must be at least 18 years of age at the time of enrolment.
– Applicants under 18 years of age are not eligible to enrol in Highlands Training Solutions courses.
– Participants must also possess basic digital skills and have access to a computer, tablet or smartphone, with internet access to complete the online learning and knowledge assessment.
– Participants must have sufficient language, literacy and numeracy skills to read and interpret first aid information, complete assessment activities, and communicate effectively in emergency situations. Where a learner requires additional language, literacy or numeracy support, Highlands Training Solutions will work with the learner to identify reasonable support strategies to assist them in successfully completing the course where possible.
The assessment in support of the unit of competency requires the learner to complete a written knowledge assessment and each candidate to demonstrate skills in an environment that provides realistic in-depth, scenarios and simulations to assess candidates’ skills and knowledge.
The learner must answer all the written knowledge questions correctly. There is the opportunity for this knowledge assessment to be conducted verbally if the learner requires this level of support.
The practical assessment is conducted under controlled conditions in a classroom. Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the workplace or community setting.
On successfully completing the training and assessment you will be issued a Statement of Attainment issuing you the unit of competency:
HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
This unit of competence is nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable outcome that is recognised throughout Australia.
Online learning plus face-to-face classroom training and assessment
Elective Units
Learner training is supported through the provision of quality learning materials and resources. All equipment and consumables are supplied as part of the course.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable, casual clothes and sensible shoes.
Participants must have the physical capacity to complete the practical assessment requirements for CPR, including kneeling on the floor and performing at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor, and at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an infant manikin placed on a firm surface, in accordance with the requirements of the unit of competency.
